I have been seeing posts like this on the Unreal Tournament subreddit and around on facebook/twitter.

There is a post from someone who said "I started playing again and I'm banned from a lot of servers".

It sounds to me like you probably are using the GOG.com installer version of the game. When GOG.com was selling UT2004 all users when they downloaded it got the same exact key. Also, because there was no DRM that key was also stolen out and circulated, along with the installer because there was nobody stopping you from installing it without proof of purchase.

The key that this game came with is the most seen key on our Llama Punter Network by a landslide.

It's not that you did anything wrong, but others who used the same exact form of identification activated that same key and now we have trouble. This key has been used by countless cheaters and botters, and general assholes that we banned it globally in our system. Any server using the Llama Punter firewall and subscribes to our cheatwall will automatically receive this ban.

Since the official Epic Master Server has been shut down and we are using OpenSpy (Learn how to make your game online again by going to https://ut2004serverlist.com) there is no cdkey validation anymore. As long as you satisfy the very simple key check on the game itself, you'll be able to play online. Now, there was a publicly listed keygen on the Unreal Tournament subreddit but the user deleted it, potentially under pressure from the creator.

There is a github with the code here: https://gist.github.com/computerquip/84ae83f03bee49e3be86ee7bfb33775d

There is also a javascript one that you can run locally without any additional software, however, we are not a site that is going to share this.
