    Default File Server Issue

I would like to let all the users know a tad bit more about the issues going on with our file servers. mirror.renbostudios.com is powered by a hosting company, I will not say as I am not contractally allowed to 'dis' them.

I don't hate them at all, but I am severely disappointed with their level of support. I have called their phone support for two issues and it got me nowhere, they didn't even know what a computer was for corn sake!

I was trying to explain to them a little bit of what was happening through email and they cannot reproduce the error, which sounds about right because I bet their email support is in the same building, therefore not going in from different locations.

The issues that I know probably 95% of people out there are running into is the download starting at our usual high speed. Then dropping to zero, and i do mean zero. It will sit there and sit there and sit there, and if you're patient enough to wait 5 minutes it will start back up. Why it is doing this? I have no friggen idea, but it seems to be happening with all 1&1 accounts.

My employer I set up on 1&1 and it's doing the same thing. So the only thing it could be is a routing issue. It is most likely an damaged or overloaded router. Just for reference could people (even if you told me) type in this thread so I can show the web host that is indeed a problem that THEY need to fix, not anything wrong on my computer.

*Note to UT2004 redirects, I have moved it to the game server's mini web server, still fast, but not as fast as PWC Burst server.

Thanks a bunch guys, I would love to get this issue resolved as soon as possible. Hopefully with their 1+ million customers they would get enough complaints to have this fixed.

I've found you don't have to wait 5 minutes, just disconnect and reconnect again and it should shoot back up and start making more progress, repeat as necessary.

It's official, I am changing web hosts. I dont' care anymore now. 1&1 is a great service until they run into a problem which will happen on all services, who am I to judge problems. The issue where 1&1 has made the biggest mistake is putting people who have no idea what they are doing in charge of tech support in another country outside of where their US operations are. I have called and emailed tech support and ran into the highest amount of crap from them.

Tonight I will start the process to move over to Host Gator. Below in my next post is a copy of the emails so you can see how stupid the support really is.

Dear Dan Christensen, (Customer ID: 13600226)

    Thank you for contacting us.

Due to resource limits on our Shared Hosting machines, it is not
possible to allocate more than 20 MB of memory to PHP, although
phpinfo() may report a higher number. You will be unable to increase the
memory usage limit with a php.ini file.

note: are they seriously this stupid, if they would TRY to download and if they knew what they were talking about our PHP system passes onto a HTTP download request. The fact that they are telling me to use FTP for this is such bull crap. Gah!

It is common for a user to fail repeatedly to download a large file via
HTTP using the browser. If you download large files frequently, and
experience difficulties, then it will be better to get a dedicated FTP
client software program. HTTP is designed to fetch web pages. It is
optimized for numerous repeated fetches of small items. FTP is designed
for transferring files, and offers faster overall throughput and better
    error checking.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

This person is seriously retarded. I really do hate to use that word, but I wonder what the IQ or even understanding of computer is for him/her.

file. I haven't found a single file that it doesn't do it on. You can go
to the download section of www.pwc-gaming.com and download a file. It
also affects all the files in my directory of ./farm1
(http://farm1.renbostudios.com) however directory browsing is not
    enabled.

    visitors see.

minutes it will continue again but that is rare.

    Update:

Signed up for a truly unlimited plan, I made them pinky swear they won't kill our service :-D We have our own dedicated IP for web hosting and I am in the process of moving the site, so be aware if it goes down temporarily that is becuase we are switching hosts. I will be emailing everyone on the site with the temporary address.

If you can see this post you are seeing this from our new server. Download speed has been restored.

They can kiss my butt too, I sat on the phone for one hour with some stupid lady. She kept bringing up the same shared account crap.
