    Default Cpu Benchmarking

my 3dmark06 score is still being thwarted by my old gfx card, but my new cpu has not disappointed! I used WPrime (v1.55), available here, with cpu and ram info of course provided by cpu-z
what other benchmarking software is there that you guys use? Super-Pi is alright, but only supports one thread at a time, and there's SisoftSandra, but it's got too many bells and whistles.

Post your scores or whatever. If you have a quad-core, you'll probably win.

I did the benchmarking on my CPU, then I decided to overclock it. I overclocked it from 2.13 to 3.20 gHZ. The great thing is the max temp, according to speedfan, only increased by 8 degrees centigrade. But while converting .wma files to .mP3 in iTunes, my computer crashed and when I tried restarting it it blue-screened and shut down and kept shutting down until I put the speed back to 2.13. Now the question I have, and I hope someone actually knows, is was it the overclocking itslef that crashed my computer or was it with iTunes. I only ask because in the popup message that asked if I wanted to send in my error report, there was junk about.dlls and stuff like that.

That would be your computer. When you put the CPU outside of the set speed at all you are making it more unstable, I do not care what people wish to tell me otherwise. It might not be much to make a difference but it's making it unstable.

Overclocking a system once can cause some long term damage to the computer (I know it's happened to two of my past processors). Haven't you learned Pepper, don't overclock computers. Hasn't your brother taught you anything (like the time he screwed up one of my old computers after I said "try overclocking it")

Your computer indeed crashed because it was unstable and wasn't able to process efficiently and/or hiccuped badly. The amount you get from overclocking isn't worth it, especially with the processor you got. It's more than adequate to do everything.

When I overclocked my Q6600 to 3.4GHz, I was able to run 3DMark but it blue screened during Prime95. Odd...

3DMark stresses the CPU with video processing, Prime95 just overloads it with math equations. It stresses it in a whole different way.

if it isn't stable with the overclock just JUICE IT SOME MORE VOLTS I swear there are no adverse consequences at all. A good rule of thumb is that if you can't smell it burning, it needs more.
