I now run on a laptop:

      17" screen
      Core2Duo @ 2.6GHz
      GeForce 8600M GT
      4GB ram, unknown speed

I essentially traded away my desktop for this. It doesn't run everything as well as I had expected, but I set the bar high. I can run pretty much any game with decent graphical settings and get a solid FPS though, so it's not a big deal.

Nothing "mobile" will ever be as good as a desktop. Now if people didn't mind a 3" thick laptop then it'd be kickass. But people want smaller, faster, better... so far they only have one of the three.

Yeah, I figured that since I was going from a 7800GT in my desktop to an 8600M GT in the laptop, but I learned the hard way that laptop cards are just crippled desktop cards. Nvidia just released the 8800M GTXs though, and those are supposed to be a 200-300% improvement over the 8600 (or maybe 8700, but most sources state the 8600), and if at all possible it would be nice to be able to upgrade to that some time in the future. I doubt I'll be able to, and I'm happy with the 8600M as it is, but if the option is there I'll consider it.

I was surprised at how thin my laptop is, too. I figured that since I'm getting a 'gaming' laptop that it would be pretty thick, but even with it decked out it's less than an inch or so thick.

lately I've involved myself with researching and discussing what my new computer will look like. I'd like to hear some input from the PWC.

      MSI P35 "Neo2" mobo
      yorkfield core2 quad (q9xxx)
      2GB DDR2 1066 Crucial w/ Micron D9 chips
      Powercolor Radeon 38xx 512MB
OR 8800gt if I can be convinced to finally switch to the dark side
      power supply? maybe?

SERIOUS BUSINESS but not unfeasibly expensive.

      I'm sure [url=http://www.ngohq.com/images/articles/HD3850/Chart4.swf:399v6ujw]it still won't run Crysis[/url:399v6ujw] hahah.

so lemme know whatchy'all think. I hope to at least get the mobo/ram soon, so I can OC the ballls off my pentium 630 ( I hope for +1 Ghz at least :p) while I wait for the q9xxx to come out

Crysis settings MAXED out? Cuz you know mine can run Crysis on all high at about 12ish FPS. I'd say make it 3 gigs. I like mine, its wondiferous. If you really want to be eXtreme...get the 8800 ultra. Or a motherboard with SLI or CROSSFIRE capabilities and have two cards running.....
