I love nice little towns, its so cozy and you don't always have to drive everywhere, you can walk too.

My burger king put in two drive throughs too...but they didn't add any windows....wtf?? It just adds to the confusion!! It becomes the same damn line anyway since theres the same windows as before! Dumbasses...
What's this? Blueberries! Oh, oh my G ... oh, that's better than sex!

I figured I could chime in on this thread as I am currently attending school up in Houghton. Aye, the Upper Peninsula is an absolutely beautiful place, especially in the summer. If you like the outdoors, then you owe it to yourself to spend some time up in Copper Harbor if you are ever that way again.

On note of Houghton, aye, its a nice little town. Very much a college town. And the sad truth is that Wal-mart is pretty much the prime shopping locale. We have a mall up here, but to be honest, besides the small movie theater in it, the Wal-mart has more to offer.

The Upper Peninsula is a far different place in the winter. But can be fun if you like snow. Michigan Tech has their winter carnival every year which can be fun to look around at if you are ever in the area at the time. Some of the fraternities go a little overkill on their statues.

It can be if you like snow and never have to be solely responsible for shoveling a significant quantity of it on a regular basis for over a decade. I'm slightly curious, do you actually live in the U.P. or are you just going to school there? I always found it amusing when kids from downstate or elsewhere decided to go to Tech for the "adventure" of it, when half the people who grew up there would rather be living in Florida. Actually the sheer number of reasonably well-off, smart kids from Houghton Highschool who chose to go Tech or Nothern utterly baffles me. I got the hell out of there as soon as I could. Though I do admit, I do have a mad, raging case of nostalgia for the place, and I'd visit in a heartbeat just to soak it all in again and revisit my childhood. Copper Harbor is pretty nice too. I must've gone up Brockway Mountain at least 50 times growing up.

On a side note, was that from a recent Winter Carnival? I know when I lived there all throughout highschool they kept getting worse and worse (some of the main frats would get banned for shenani.gans almost every time), and I'd still be willing to bet they never got as good as when I was little, but I still do have quite a few pictures.

I admittedly did not live in the U.P in my teen years. Though I did live in Munising for around 3-4 years when I was a child. And I then spent the rest of the years down in Holland, MI. And being right on the lake front I did have to do a fair bit of shoveling of snow myself, but not near to the degree that you did I imagine.

I am currently mainly up here for school, but at the same time I have been living up here year round for two years so far, only leaving for break and a week or two at the start of the summer. I suppose it's a hit or miss thing for people. I personally wouldn't be able to stand living in Florida for I absolutely hate heat, but meanwhile I don't mind at all dealing with cold and snow. Personal preference I suppose. I make use of the summer for my outdoor activities, and generally stay inside during the winter.

And yes, that picture was from the most recent winter carnival. I would be interested to see some of the pictures you have of the older winter carnivals, for you have undoubtedly seen some of the more impressive statues over the course of your time up here.
